THIS IS A COMPLETE GENUINE EXTREMELY RARE UK ORIGINAL SET, AND IS A REMARKABLE OPPORTUNITY TO BUY AN OUTSTANDING EXAMPLE OF ONE OF THE MOST HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE VINYL ALBUMS OF ALL TIME in STUNNING CONDITION.

Exile on Main St. is the tenth studio album by The Rolling Stones. It was released as a double LP in 1972 and drew on influences from rock & roll, blues, country and soul. "Exile" was initially greeted with lukewarm reviews, but is now widely considered among the band's finest works, and one of the defining masterpieces of the rock era.

In a media tornado of publicity the band decided to retreat to Keith Richard's villa in France, where the recording process would be plagued by difficulties, chaos and personal problems. The album was composed largely of out takes and tracks written and recorded over the period of four years, from 1968 to 1972. Most tracks were recorded between 1969 and 1971 at Olympic Studios and Jagger's Stargroves country house in England during sessions for Sticky Fingers.

Additional tracks including "Rip this Joint", "Shake Your Hips", "Casino Boogie", "Happy", "Rocks Off", "Turd on the Run", and "Ventilator Blues", were begun in the basement of Nellcôte, the Stones French exile residence. Some were then taken to Sunset Sound Recorders in Los Angeles where numerous overdubs of piano and keyboard parts, lead and backing vocals, guitar and bass overdubs were added during sessions between December 1971 and May 1972. Tracks such as "Torn and Frayed" and "Loving Cup" were re recorded in Los Angeles.

Despite all the problems the stones were having at the time, the album is often described as being Richards' finest moment, as Exile is thought to reflect his vision for a raw, rootsy rock sound. With Richards stuck in drug use, the group's later 1970s releases became directed largely by Mick Jagger, and would experiment with other musical genres, moving away from the thoroughly roots-based sound of the classic Exile On Main St.

ALBUM PLAYED FOR GRADING:

Yes – brilliant! - TOP AUDIO throughout.

Exile would prove a turning point for the Stones, and a massive classic. The music was recorded in a basement and the 1st pressings are notoriously variable in their sound quality. I'm delighted to say that this rare 1st press set has strong super crisp sound, which is so hard to find with 'Exile' . Strong, undistorted sound free of loud pops, clicks or distortion. It has an brilliant vinyl sound, and what a great way to hear this classic Stones masterpiece.

There is minimal surface sound between the tracks, and the vocal and guitar clarity is amazing. 'Shine a light' sings out with silence in the run ins and quiet areas. Great music with great clarity, and so hard to find with this type of sound. Crystal Clear Sound!

The music jumps out, with definition and clarity, the vocals which come through with tremendous power. Its the same with the bass guitar and drums, whilst the guitars come through crisp and clear.

This is a great 1st press example, with incredible Strong, undistorted sound, and a minimum of any static or surface sound. Channels are clean and unstressed. The music jumps out, with definition and clarity, particularly on the percussion instruments, and vocals which come through with tremendous power. All the instruments are bright and clear, along with the bass and drums. I will give a detailed account below:

Exile is a complex and varied collection of music, and hard to find in clear audio condition. Worn copies can have a lot of surface sound even on musically complex and busy tracks like 'Soul Survivor.' This pressing has unbelievable strong undistorted audio, with super clear strong sound. NO interference, and NO loud pops or clicks or Distortion. Any static is extremely low level, and that is unusual for any vinyl. It really sounds great and plays with great sound separation and clarity!

The album starts with the classic 'Rocks off', bursting in with amazing power and clarity, sensational audio with all the layering extremely clear. A wonderful 'Rip This Joint' sounds like it has never been played. There are no pops or clicks and the same high levels continue with 'Shake Your Hips' so raunchy it plays beautifully, with that echo on Mick's voice in the chorus, nearly always lost, sounds superb. The classic 'Tumbling Dice' plays superbly with no audible static, just great clear audio. There are no pops clicks and certainly not a hint of distortion anywhere on this record.

'Sweet Virginia' brings in side 2. again with incredibly clear audio. This track is a real test on Exile and nearly always plays with lots of noise and clicks. Here it sounds fantastic. No pops or tics and just some very light background occasional static, which is very surprising for this quiet stones classic. Even the extremely quiet intro sounds incredibly clear. The outro sounds great with silence between the tracks. A superb press of this great track. 'Torn and Frayed' plays with great clear sound, and just a  touch of very occasional, very distant surface static. And I mean you have to be straining to hear any static at all. 'Sweet Black Angel' and 'Loving Cup' finish off this great album, clear and bright, brilliant sound. As perfect as vinyl can be. There is an ultra quiet bass drum track at the ver start that is nearly always lost on even slightly worn vinyls. Here it is crystal clear.

Side 3. starts off with 'Happy', which sounds superb, super rich clear sound with just a touch of light static at the very start. Certainly no loud pops or clicks. 'Turd on the Run' plays with great clear sound, perfect audio. 'Ventilator' again sound great with bright clear sound, continuing with 'Just Wanna See His face', still no pops or clicks and a minimal of any static. In fact this track normally sounds like it was made in a basement (which of course it was) but here it sounds clearer than I've ever heard. Amazing. The ultra quiet 'Let it Loose' intro sounds great. Virtually NO background static at all, and certainly nothing dominant or even noticeable. The vocal layering at the end of the song is just beautiful. No clicks, tics or pops, just superb sound. Perfect.
Side 4. 'All Down the Line' powers in with magnificent clear audio, the same as 'Stop Breaking Down'. Really top sound, this has to be one of the best Exile's I've ever heard. The ultra delicate intro to 'Shine A light' sounds amazing, with virtually no surface sound at all and still no pops on this record. A slight single tic between the tracks and thats it. 'Soul Survivor' plays with great audio, rounding off a superb 1st press of Exile, with super clear sound throughout, and no loud pops or clicks and certainly no distortion or groove wear, just brilliantly clear music, like the rest of the album.

I really enjoyed every second of this rare 1st pressing. There are NO repeat tics, NO distortion, certainly NO sticks or jumps what so ever. This pressing plays with crisp clear audio throughout, with no loss of audio performance what so ever. A truly unbelievable audio experience.

The tonal quality make this a sensational pressing. With the clear and extra loud First cut engineering giving the audio a vibrant sound which cannot be beaten.

This press has strong undistorted audio, with Super clear sound and absolutely minimal background static. There is certainly no dominant  interference, and NO loud pops or clicks or Distortion. HOW Incredibly RARE! It really sounds great and plays with great sound separation and clarity!

Superb sound, every track has been tested and I could find no obvious sound blemishes at all. A great all round example of this classic vinyl. Staggering first stereo mix, unlike the re-issues which lack the impact. As Exile is one of the most debauched albums, usually they have been equally abused. Not this one! So rare to find a pressing of Exile in this condition!

I would have to give these vinyls a strong NEAR MINT sound grading. It would be hard to better.

THE RECORD – VISUAL GRADING

A superb set of glossy vinyls, and a really thick pressings. Deep clear grooves that can only be found on the original 1st pressings, this vinyl has been barely played, in fact it looks virtually unplayed. The records have great shine, just some light handling marks only, and no obvious marks at all when viewed in bright daylight, and absolutely NO groove wear. Under a spot light, as I test all my vinyls, there are some very faint sleeve removal marks.

On the whole this is a really stunning example. This is a really wonderful set in great condition, and I would have to give them a grading of NEAR MINT

VINYL TESTED FOR ANY SIGNS OF WARPING:

Yes, NONE visible what so ever when tested be sight and on a moving turntable.

THE COVER

Great Original Cover in heavy weight card and fully intact! Very rare and very hard to find un torn and un damaged, this is without doubt the best example I have ever seen of an original Exile cover, and I am certain it would be near impossible to ever find a better example.

The Matt finish covers of Exile have to be one of the most prone to wear, of all the classic vinyls from the sixties and early seventies. Not having the advantage of being laminated, these covers usually faired pretty badly, with serious ring wear and destruction to the edges, and nearly always extremely yellowing with age. The Spines are nearly always flattened, worn and un readable. Not this one!

This rare original over  has virtually NO corner wear, and virtually NO rubbing along the edges. The opening edges are square and un frayed. The back cover is nice and clean, with NO ring wear, which is very unusual for these delicate covers.

The inside Gatefold is clean and unmarked. The Spine shows virtually NO wear at all, and certainly no tears or ripping. The spine text is totally intact and the spine is square and true and completely unflattened. A stunning example with virtually NO corner rubbing and none of the yellowing that these un laminated covers always have. All round, this is an outstanding 1st pressed cover in unusual condition, and comes with no tears, writing or sticker marks, virtually NO wear what so ever, it really looks like new! Grades at EXCELLENT PLUS to NEAR MINT.

THE LABELS

Famous Yellow labels are in brilliant Condition, with no marks or writing. Deep intact colour, virtually no discernible spindle traces at all. Stunning all round examples!.

Graded at NEAR MINT.

THE INNERS

Superb condition, NO tears, and NO wear at the tops. virtually NO rubbing at the corners.

Graded at NEAR MINT.

Crisp and Clean, - a fantastic set. The Vinyls will of course come with replacement plain white inners to protect the originals.

POSTCARDS

So rare now, The TWELVE Original POSTCARDS are all still attached and in EXCELLENT PLUS condition. Very rare to find ALL cards virtually untouched.

Concertina format. 1st issue UK set normally found missing but these are great condition. The white insides are near perfect, unmarked. A wonderful rare original set in brilliant condition!

Not to be confused with editions made outside the uk, these are complete UK first press originals, with no colour text on the front or reverse.

The Post Cards will come in the separate envelope they have been stored in, to stop them getting frayed.

RARITY

A complete First UK pressing of Exile on Main Street in decent condition is very scarce. The vinyl is so often played so much, heavily marked, scratched, with noisy, poor and distorted sound. Any Exile examples with a record in this type of condition, that has a rich clear sound, is unbelievably rare.

Finding an un torn or un stained Original cover like this, and with a lovely pieces of vinyl, fantastic!.

SCRUPULOUS EXAMINATION and TESTING:

All our records are play tested on highly sensitive equipment to ensure the sound quality and accuracy of description. We aim to give a precise and concise description of the sound, pointing out the slightest defect so that you know exactly what you are buying. We aim to describe all records as accurately as possible, and offer a full refund on return if for any reason you are not completely happy with the item description.

VINYL SOUND - PLEASE NOTE:

Highest quality vinyl with clear sound is rare, and what we always aim for. We only sell records that play with TOP AUDIO performance; super clear sound uninterrupted by hiss or other interference. Even with the cleanest pressing you will find occasional static or occasional light tics during playback, caused by a build of dust in the grooves. This is clearly different from the distortion, loud pops, repeating tics or clicks that are found on heavily played and worn pieces of vinyl. Any static build up will reduce when played, and we advise a light clean between plays for optimal performance.
