DAVID BOWIE - ALADDIN SANE
STUNNING MINT UNPLAYED 1st EVER UK pressing on the 1st Press RCA Gloss labels, with TRULY INCREDIBLE ARCHIVE  CLEAR AUDIO  and Superb Cover and ORIGINAL Inner. This is a great opportunity to own a classic rare piece of musical history, in stunning condition throughout!

All COMPLETELY original, making this the ultimate collectable original press of Bowie's masterpiece in UNPLAYED condition. From my own personal collection. SIMPLY THE BEST AUDIO QUALITY!

Please Note: This vinyl is UNPLAYED and has been carefully tested it to ensure the sound quality, as new vinyls can still have audio flaws or poor audio quality.

Unplayed vinyl does not necessarily equate with perfect audio. Even new unplayed pieces can have defects in the pressing and any vinyl that has been in storage for 40 years can have dust penetration or even distortion to the grooves that can cause deterioration to the general sound quality, or heavy pops and clicks. This record has been carefully play tested twice to give an accurate assessment of its audio performance.

THIS IS AN EXTREME RARITY AND IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO BUY AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE ALADDIN SANE, in STUNNING  UNPLAYED CONDITION with truly REMARKABLE MINT AUDIO!

Aladdin Sane is the sixth album by David Bowie, released by RCA Records in 1973 . The follow-up to his breakthrough The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, it was the first album Bowie wrote and released as a bona fide rock star. Critics agree that it contains some of his best material, and it has remained a ground breaking lp for Bowie and music in general. Bowie encyclopedist Nicholas Pegg describes it as "one of the most urgent, compelling and essential" of his releases. The Rolling Stone review by Ben Gerson pronounced it "less manic than The Man Who Sold The World, and less intimate than Hunky Dory, with none of its attacks of self-doubt."  It was one of six Bowie entries in Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time (at #277) and ranked #77 on Pitchfork Media's Top 100 Albums of the 1970s.
The name of the album is a pun on "A Lad Insane". An early variation was "Love Aladdin Vein", which Bowie dropped partly because of its drug connotations. Although technically a new Bowie 'character', Aladdin Sane was essentially a development of Ziggy Stardust in his appearance and persona, as evidenced on the cover by Brian Duffy and in Bowie’s live performances throughout 1973 that culminated in Ziggy’s ‘retirement’ at theHammersmith Odeon in July of that year. Bowie himself described Aladdin Sane as simply "Ziggy goes to America", most of the tracks being observations he composed on the road during his 1972 U.S. tour—the reason for the place names following each song title on the original record sleeve. Biographer Christopher Sandford believed the album showed that Bowie "was simultaneously appalled and fixated by America".
His mixed feelings about the journey stemmed, in Bowie's words, from "wanting to be up on the stage performing my songs, but on the other hand not really wanting to be on those buses with all those strange people... SoAladdin Sane was split down the middle."  This kind of "schizophrenia", as Bowie describes it, was conveyed on the cover by his makeup, where a lightning bolt represents the duality of mind, although he would later tell friends that the "lad insane" of the album's title track was inspired by his brother Terry, who had been diagnosed as a schizophrenic.

The majority of Aladdin Sane was recorded at Trident Studios in London from December 1972 to January 1973, between legs of Bowie's U.S. Ziggy Stardust tour. A desire to rush release the record was blamed for mixes on the Rolling Stones influenced "Watch That Man" and "Cracked Actor" that buried vocals and harmonica, respectively.
Aladdin Sane featured a tougher rock sound than its predecessor Ziggy Stardust, particularly on tracks like "Panic in Detroit" (built around a Bo Diddley beat) and Bowie’s breakneck version of the Stones' "Let's Spend the Night Together". The album was also notable for its exploration of unusual styles such as avant-garde jazz in the title track and Brechtian cabaret in "Time", the latter being famous for the line "Time ... falls wanking to the floor". Both numbers were dominated by Mike Garson’s acclaimed piano work, which also featured heavily in the faux James Bond flamenco ballad "Lady Grinning Soul", inspired by singer Claudia Linnear.
With a purported 100,000 copies ordered in advance,  Aladdin Sane debuted at the top of the UK charts and reached #17 in America, making it Bowie's most successful album commercially in both countries to that date. Critical reaction was generally laudatory, if more enthusiastic in the U.S. than in the UK. Rolling Stone remarked on "Bowie's provocative melodies, audacious lyrics, masterful arrangements (with Mick Ronson) and production (with Ken Scott)", while Billboard called it a combination of "raw energy with explosive rock"

ALBUM PLAYED FOR GRADING:

It is unbelievably hard to find copies of ALADDIN SANE with great audio. So many vinyls, even visually clean examples can play with a  lot of distortion and repetitive clicks. For such a varied album that is not surprising, but the production and mastering also meant that these vinyls were prone to dust penetration and surface noise, and there are a lot of quiet areas that can just sound terrible on worn copies.

To give an example of how unusual this pressing is, there is a faint vocal echo on Bowie's voice on the quiet 'Changes' track. Not the echo on the primary vocal, but a very faint second vocal. This can usually never be heard, it is so faint and the slightest vinyl wear will cover it up. On this amazing press the vocal definition is crystal clear.

This is a the ultimate VAULT AUDIO 1st press example, with incredible Strong, undistorted sound, and a minimum of any detectable static or surface sound. Channels are clean and unstressed. The music jumps out, with definition and clarity, particularly on the percussion instruments, and vocals which come through with tremendous power. All the instruments and every breath of Bowie's singing is bright and clear. As with the bass and drums, whilst the guitars come through crisp and precise. I will give a detailed account below.

Even for David Bowie Aladdin Sane is a complex and varied collection of music, and hard to find in clear audio condition. Worn copies can have a lot of surface sound even on musically complex and busy tracks like 'Panic In Detroit.' This pressing has unbelievable strong undistorted audio, with super clear strong sound. NO  interference, and NO loud pops or clicks or Distortion. Any static is extremely low level, barely detectable, and that is unusual for any vinyl. It really sounds great and plays with great sound separation and clarity!

The album starts with amazing power and clarity. 'Watch That Man' is a complex track with extremely complex audio layering, all crystal clear. A wonderful 'Aladdin Sane' sounds like it has never been played, its so clear. It sounds like the vinyl looks as a matter of fact. Archive Audio! 'Drive In Saturday' plays beautifully, with that echo on Bowie's voice in the chorus, nearly always lost, sounds superb. The rocky 'Panic In Detroit' plays superbly with no static or surface sound at all. Unbelievable. Rounding off side 1. 'Cracked Actor' sods amazing, simply perfect, flawless audio.

'Time' brings in side 2, again with Crystal clear audio. There is some very light static in the first few bars, but its barley noticeable. The track plays with perfect separation and no pops or clicks at all. 'The Prettiest Star', which plays with great clear sound, and just a  touch of very occasional distant surface static. You have to have your head with next to the speaker and be straining to hear any static at all. 'Lets Spend The Night Together' and 'The Jean Genie' play again with what can only be described as perfect audio, and I don't use that term lightly. 'Lady Grinning Soul' finishes off this great album with the same top standard. Simply Perfect!

I really enjoyed every second of this rare 1st pressing. There are NO repeat tics, NO distortion, NO sticks or jumps what so ever. This pressing plays with crisp clear audio throughout, with no loss of audio performance what so ever. Truly unbelievable audio experience. I would easily give this a grading of NEAR MINT to MINT condition. It would be nigh on impossible to better!

THE RECORD - Visual Grading

A superb piece of glossy vinyl, and a really thick pressing. Deep clear grooves that can only be found on the original early pressings, this vinyl is as new. On first inspection in strong daylight this vinyl looks completely unmarked and even when inspected under a powerful spot light, it still looks unmarked, with only the faintest of sleeve removal marks, but these are very light and almost imperceptible. This vinyl is stunning and easily graded at NEAR MINT.

VINYL TESTED FOR ANY SIGNS OF WARPING:

Yes, NONE visible what so ever, when tested be sight and on a moving turntable.

THE LABELS
Famous 1st Press RCA labels are in SUPERB Condition, no marks or writing, no  spindle wear.  A lovely set of labels with NO spindle traces or marks of any sort. These are an immaculate pair of labels! As close to perfect as labels can ever be.
Graded at MINT condition.

THE COVER

The unlaminated pale covers of Aladdin Sane are almost impossible to find in great condition. They are nearly always scuffed and creased to a large extent, if not heavily worn, with dark specs where the colour has been worn off across the flat surfaces. I don't need to tell you how rare it is to have a pressing that is has a solid square spine and un worn edges.

This great complete 1st press comes with the original unlaminated cover, which is a stunning example. The cover shows barely any handling wear, minimal creasing and corner wear, and has certainly no tears or obvious defects. There is no feathering to the openings, which is very unusual. The cover is square and un flattened and has been has not lost any of its shape.

I would have to grade this at EXCELLENT PLUS.

THE INNER

Great Original 1st Press Blue Lyric inner sleeve in EXCELLENT condition. A great example, with barely any light creases only, there are no tears to the top edges, and NO seem splits. This is a great fully intact example with little wear, just some light rubbing at the edges.

A great all round Complete and Rare example of this EARLY ROCK MASTERPIECE

RARITY

ALADDIN SANE is a highly collectable vinyl, reaching increasingly high prices. And there are a number of good reasons. It is a classic, ground breaking piece of music, and has a number of brilliantly designed components, all if which are prone to wear. A matt cover, which is nearly always heavily marked and scuffed, an inner that is usually torn and covered in finger prints, a small fold over fan club insert that is usually stained and torn, and a great vinyl that was nearly always played into submission.

THIS IS A PERFECT ALL ROUND 1ST PRESSING. FINDING AN ORIGINAL UK STEREO PRESS IN STUNNING ALL ROUND CONDITION, a 1st PRESSINGS THAT IS EXMELY RARE.

THIS IS A GREAT PLAYING VINYL WITH SUPER BRIGHT CLEAR AUDIO, A SUPERB COVER AND INNER. I DOUBT YOU WILL EVER HESR A BETTER PLAYING PRESSING. ALL MAKING THIS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO OWN AN EXTREMELY RARE PIECE OF MUSICAL HISTORY!

VINYL SOUND - PLEASE NOTE:

Highest quality vinyl with clear sound is rare, and what we always aim for. We only sell records that play with TOP AUDIO performance; super clear sound uninterrupted by hiss or other interference. Even with the cleanest pressing you will find occasional static or occasional light tics during playback, caused by a build of dust in the grooves. This is clearly different from the distortion, loud pops, repeating tics or clicks that are found on heavily played and worn pieces of vinyl. Any static build up will reduce when played, and we advise a light clean between plays for optimal performance.
