PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback.   We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

             HOW LONG BLUES

                        In glorious MONOPHONIC

Gotten really hard to find...authentic '60s blues artifact on the BATTLE label ... the last copy we spotted sometime ago SOLD for $80 in less condition than this TOP COPY!

This is a great, legendary blues album from John Lee Hooker. A fine example of one chord blues structure intermixed with Hookers unique vocal style. Leading off with Black Snake, one of Hookers best, the sound quality of the recording makes this album a gem. It was recorded in 1959 and on good stereo it will put JOHN LEE HOOKER right in the room in front of you! If you love blues or if you just want to sample the best, this is probably the best classic blues on the market. Recommended just for listening to "Tupelo", a song about the historic flood of Tupelo Mississippi. This is old, down in the gutter stuff!

How these sessions were released on Joe Von Battle's () label is unclear. Although recorded in Detroit in 1959 ...the 1959 photos were taken of Hooker in and outside Battle's studio and it appears the two maintained a relationship well into the 60s when this small pressing was released. The Bill Grauer Productions credit on the label does point towards a relationship with Riverside who it appears was handling distribution for the Battle label. The recording is just John Lee Hooker, his acoustic guitar and his voice. What's deceptively complex in his enormous body of work is the way he conjures dark moods and hypnotic rhythms from the simplest of components--sometimes only one or two chords. Hooker has roots in the Mississippi Delta blues, specifically Charlie Patton, and he's the only latter day bluesman with direct ties to that era (he was born in 1920).

Whether abetted by a rhythm section or stripped down to basics, Hooker uses modal chords and endlessly snaking grooves. The rhythm of his guitar chugs along hypnotically under his supple voice, which can turn from a plaint to a growl in a flash. This set is both the map to a hidden treasure and the treasure itself.
