PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback.   We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

RARE & CLEAN 1970 ORIGINAL FIRST PRESS

                  ~ LIMBUS 4 ~

                  "MANDALAS"

                GERMANY - OHR RECORDS - 56.001

Original, rare and *clean* very first pressing on the highly collected German "OHR" label ... stunning laminated gatefold, was manufactured with a weird little window in the center of cover that held a protruding balloon. Problem was the balloon was not made to last 45+ years, hence they all rotted, literally. Anyone who has a cover with the original balloon in tact has probably stored it in their refrigerator the better part of the last 50 years.

Here comes the 2nd 1970 Limbus album (their even more obscure first LP from 1969, under the name Limbus 3, was only a limited private press and valued in the $600+ range.) That being said, Limbus 4 "Mandalas" is decidedly a better album and certainly get 5 STARS out of 5 on the "Trip" meter.

In the great vein of the OHR discography, the LIMBUS 4 pioneers of "space" music for space people deliver a high apex dose of far-out, freak-out weirdness.

Formed in 1968, Limbus were a most unusual band who grew a unique music out of jazz, folk and acid-psych/avant-garde roots. As the more varied instrumental quartet, Limbus 4 displayed swirling organ, studio effects and a most bizarre use of instruments ... that being said, "Mandalas" has easily perplexed and confused the uninitiated listener, meaning Limbus 4 were certainly one of a kind.

"Mandalas" may have even been designed for an organic psychedelic mushrooms trip when their improvised freak-out travels were framed with plenty of sonic reference to Indian, and Tibetan culture. If that sentence sounds good to you, then it stands that you may very well enjoy this album. Unlike many of the other Krautrockers of this time period, Limbus 4's focus was not on electronics at all, but melding avant-garde instrumentation with cosmic percussive sounds and tribal like vocals, amid ground swelling organ navigation. This album marked the last anyone ever heard from the Limbus 4 crew ...no doubt, the very sonic grooves within totally disappeared the band, transcending them up over the rainbow and beyond....

The "fan-man" has an interesting take on this album advising the tracks are   'soundscapes.' For instance, the track "Dhyana" suggests a long climb up a tall mountain, flanked by strange birds, holy men chanting, and disintegrating sunlight, until reaching the villagers' hippodrome at the top of the mountain. Then one can take their creation called "Plasma," and convert that into a meditational journey through the fires of the sun. It's very esoteric sounding as it morphs from one sound plateau into another via backdrop gushing organ injected with a percussive battle fading into a wall of wooden flutes. Between those two pieces are the short plinking random percussion of "Heiku" and the practically ambient "Kundalini."

This sort of cosmic theater is similar to what 'CAN' referred to as ethneological forgeries. With "Mandalas," LIMBUS 4 are far more free-form than CAN ever were, leaving the listener in an interesting little corner of Krautrock that deserves attention

Limbus 4 were:
Odysseus Artnern, Bernd Henninger, Matthias Knieper & Gerd Kraus  playing organ, piano, bass, cello, viola, violin, flutes, percussion, tablas and acid effects)
