"I'M NOT RUNNING AWAY"  (Bill Mason, 1964)

I'm not running away,
I'm not running away,
You've been told that I don't scare, so easily,
I'm not running away.

I'm not running away,
I'm not running away,

When we used to walk home together,
And quietly to me you used to say,
"Darling, you used to want me."
Then I'd say, "You know I won't run away."

I'm not running away,
I'm not running away,

When we used to walk home together,
And quietly to me you used to say;
"Darling, you used to want me."
Then I'd say; "You know I won't run away,"
Then I'd say; "You know I won't run away,"
Then I'd say; "You know I won't run away."
THE FITZ AND STARTZ: "I'm Not Running Away" /"So Sweet" 45 RPM, VERY RARE PARLOPHONE 45 MONO DEMO.
RECORDED WHEN JEFF BECK WAS STILL A SESSION MUSICIAN AT THAT STAGE, HE PLAYED LEAD GUITAR ON
THE A-SIDE.  WHEN  THE SINGLE WAS RELEASED, ONLY 12 WEEKS LATER JIMMY PAGE RECOMMENDED HIM TO
THE YARDBIRDS TO REPLACE ERIC CLAPTON, WHO LEFT IN MARCH,1965.
Often described as Jeff Beck's very first recording but it certainly was not, Jeff was was a session guitarists as early as 1962
and by the time he played on "I'm Not Running Away," his guitar genius was firmly established. His great riff and solo are
instantly recognisable as the sounds he introduced to the Yardbirds blues and early psychedelic records in April, 1965.

EMI ONLY PRESSED A FEW DEMO'S IN DECEMBER,1964, TO PROMOTE THE STANDARD PRESSED SINGLE  MADE
FOR THE JANUARY,1965 RELEASE, THEY ARE SCARCE ENOUGH BUT THE DEMO'S ARE ULTRA RARE.
For all my records to be Mint is my ideal and target, however, when it comes to major rarities like this, I am perfectly happy to
offer 'Very Good' condition, which was the condition of a copy I sold last year. I kept searching and although not expecting a
Mint standard pressing let alone another Demo... but this is indeed a stunning, once played Mint Demo!  I think that was the one
and only  'Very Good' grading record I have sold for many, many years.  Naturally enough I really carefully checked the sound
was unaffected by the visually obvious marks,  the sound was razor sharp, loud, powerful and a real pleasure to hear. Demo's were
intended to be played several times,60's vinyl withstood that, providing it was not abused and played with a regularly replaced
stylus, unfortunately few were in in the 60's&  70's!  None of those worries here, the A-side was only played once and the B-side
  has never been played!

VERY  RARE WHITE BACKGROUND PARLOPHONE LABEL, WITH A LARGE WHITE "A" ON THE  A-SIDE,
  WITH THE TEXT;

"Demonstration Record - Not For Sale," ON BOTH SIDE'S LABELS.

PRESSED LATE 1964, THE RIM TEXT IS STILL "Parlophone Co." AND OBVIOUSLY DEMO RECORDS DID NOT HAVE
"Recording First Published" TEXT, EMI DID NOT USE ANY FORM OF RELEASE DATE THIS EARLY IN THE 1960's.
Quite why the "So Sweet" labels has the Music publication credited to "Hollies Music" is a mystery to me, the Hollies did not
write the track and I suspect it was an error taken from a Hollies Demo, as they also recorded for Parlophone.  If that was the
reason, the error was continued onto the standard pressings because the same credit is on the B-side label only.

  MAITRIX: 7XCE 18657 - 1N /  7XCE 18658 - 1N
THE EARLIER UK 1960's TAX "KT", IS STAMPED IN THE RUN-OUT GROOVES AT THE 9 O'CLOCK  POSITION AND ON THE
  B-SIDE'S PUSH-OUT CENTRE.
EMI'S STAMPING CODES WERE UNIQUE TO MOST EARLY 1960 DEMO 45's, THERE WAS NOT A 'Mother' DIGIT
STAMPED IN THE 9 O'CLOCK POSITION OF THE RUN-OUT GROOVES.  NO NEED, BECAUSE ONLY A VERY 1st MOTHER
APPLIED TO THE FEW ADVANCE / DEMO / VERY FIRST PRESSING.

AS SO  FEW DEMO's WERE PRESSED IT WAS NOT DEEMED NECESSARY TO INDEX THEM, INSTEAD "JR" WAS STAMPED
AT THE 3 O'CLOCK POSITION OF THE RUN-OUT GROOVES ON BOTH SIDES.
I have taken a close up picture to show the "JR" letters, if ever you want to make sure any other EMI Demo is not one of the many
fakes, made by counterfeiters who prosper on ebay, look for the only possible pair of stamping codes.  Only 'G 1' was machine
stamped, unless like the 1960's before early 1965 with "JR" and blank position's for the mother's, it will be fake.  Of course the
Beatles on the Parlophone & Apple labels are the main target for crooks, no way could an Advance Beatles Demo be any higher
than the 'first of the first', 'G' at 3 o'clock means record No.1 and '1' at 9 o'clock simply has to be on both sides, just like
the letter 'G'at 3 o'clock.  A simple enough equation, but no doubt collector's will be bidding high prices for blatant fake
Beatles Demo's, if you see one report the seller to ebay immediately, I cannot police the whole of ebay, but I can and do give
all the info required to expose those seeking to resort to fraud.

ORIGINAL LATE 1964 /1965  GREEN & WHITE PARLOPHONE SLEEVE WITH A WAVY TOP OPENING.
TOTALLY UNFADED AND COMPLETELY UNAGED,WITHOUT ANY TEARS OR SEAM SPLITS.   ONLY A RECORD IMPRESSION
ANDA FEW  RELATED LIGHT CREASES.  THAT IS EXACTLY HOW A 50 YEAR OLD SLEEVE SHOULD BE....WHEN
  AUTHENTIC AND NOT COUNTERFEIT.
THE SLEEVE IS IN STUNNING NEAR MINT CONDITION.

THE RECORD WAS ONLY PLAYED ONLY ONCE ON THE A-SIDE, THE B-SIDE HAS NEVER BEEN PLAYED. THERE ARE
NO MARKS OR SCRATCHES, THE DEEPLY GLOSSY, AS NEW RECORD IS IN MINT CONDITION.

First of all before I get to Jeff Beck, earlier I mentioned "So Sweet" was credited as published by "Hollies Music" and I was not
certain that was not an error.  Another possibility was Fitz And Startz  were friends with the Hollies because they were also
from Manchester and must have played the same clubs and pubs.    I cannot tell you a great deal about Fitz And Startz, who were
and still are together performing live, Adrian Fitzpatrick, Adam Kidson, Neil Harrison and Pete Harrison, I will stay where my
knowledge can retread the early career of the great Jeff Beck and how he came to join the Yardbirds and a short appreciation of
the incredible music created with Jeff in such a short time, 1965 - 1966.  I have described the record and I couldn't add a great
deal to that after such specific sound reproduction and contents, I have decided the rarity of a Mint "I'm Not Running Away" Demo
  prohibits myself from playing

Jeff Beck's first recording session after the "I'm Not Running Away" single was released and failed to sell, was to now join the
Yardbirds, 3 tracks featuring their new lead guitarist were released as an EP, two for the "Heart Full Of Soul" single in 1965.
Even for the Beatles, in the  first half of the 1960's it was expected for EP's and singles to out number albums and this debut
1965 Yardbirds EP,  followed that pattern but very unusually, the only album they had issued in December 1964, had been a
live one ,"Five Live Yardbirds." their first studio LP was still a year away, in 1966.  The live album featured Eric Clapton, he
left when "For Your Love" was issued earlier in March, 1965,  the last Yardbirds single with Eric Clapton as the lead guitarist.
Clapton left because he was unhappy at the direction "For Your Love"was heading towards, it was early psychedelia and Eric
was consumed by only wanting to play pure blues.  He joined forces with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Mayall knew a thing or
two about how to replace the irreplaceable when it came to blues musicians!  The Yardbirds were the other British blues band
to just as triumphantly pass on a vacancy as Mayall was, at first Jimmy Page was invited to join but he was currently tied up
with being a session musician, Eric Clapton had recommended Jimmy Page as his replacement.  Now it was the turn of Jimmy
Page to recommended a guitarist he knew and respected, Jeff Beck were old friends because his older sister was at the same
art schools as Jimmy Page. Jeff Beck was  facing an unenviable and almost impossible position, replacing "Slowhand"Clapton,
took a real guitar genius to successfully manage that, but Beck was such a genius.  He had also been earning a living as a session
session guitarist with for several artists, including Screaming Lord Sutch, plus he had been in a the Tridents.  Jeff Beck was one
of the most unique guitarist of them all and until Jimi Hendrix appeared in late 1966, Beck was the first pioneer of psychedelic
music.   He was using feedback and creating sounds previously unheard, for over a year, the new Jeff Beck line-up concentrated
on singles and this EP,  than on albums, and what staggering 45's they were !  In June,1965, Jeff Beck's incredible guitar fuelled
"Heart Full Of Soul" was an extraordinary single, introducing new sounds and predating "Rubber Soul" by six months.  At first
the idea was to have an Indian musician playing a sitar on the track, after that recording was played back, it was felt the sound
was not 'beefy' enough.  So Jeff Beck just picked up his guitar and played the sitar's part in his unique style , it could be argued,
the fantastic sounds he produced with an electric guitar meant psychedelic music was born in very early 1965.  As a Yardbirds
since their 1964 debut single, I would be the first to argue that was the first single to include psychedelic sounds created by a
guitarists, the song itself lent itself to such an extraordinary production with or without the Indian sitar on the track. You can
hear that first version on several official sources, if you re-play the Beck guitar version, you will re-evluate his true genius in
this mid-1965 period.   It should be remembered that when blues/r&b was really flourishing but Jeff Beck's guitar was off in
another dimension. To name him a blues guitarist is incorrect, he was very similar to how Jimi Hendrix transcended just playing
traditional blues of say Mayall's music in the 1960's.  Mind you, when Beck & Hendrix  turned their attention to pure blues, the
  results were just as devastating!

I always enjoy tracing the early years of the inspired musicians who shaped the magical 1960's, I will not be playing the record
because of the rarity of one side being unplayed and the other only the once.  Demo's from any decade will normally have several
plays, especially from 1965.  "I'm Not Running Away" is very early psychedelia with a strong Beatles influence heard within the
superb vocals and harmonies.  Add in Jeff Beck's inspired guitar, this is a fantastic track, in truth "So Sweet" is a B-side in every
sense of the word, an okay song performed well enough, but without the wonderful magical sounds on "I'm Not Running Away."
You could ask how I can be so certain it was Jeff Beck without his name credited on the label of such a rare obscure 51 year old
single, I have known and loved Jeff's guitar sound since I first bought the Yardbirds "Heart Full Of Soul" single in June, 1965.
From the intro to the last notes, "I'm Not Running Away" has that distinctive 'steel' blues sound Jeff Beck innovated and loved to
create, turn the Yardbirds "Heart Full Of Soul" single over and you find a unique non-album, B-side track ...... "Steeled Blues."
Even without my long term love of Jeff's records for his entire career, I can also say I bought an official CD containing all of
Jeff Beck's early 60's studio sessions for various artists' records.  Highly recommenced for the contents and research among the
    Master Tapes, On it you find Abbey Road's Master Tape of "I'm Not Running Away" and "So Sweet," the CD is titled;
"Jeff Beck - Shapes Of Things: 60's Groups & Sessions"

    R & M RECORDS.

My lifetime's love of music and records began at a very young age, the arrival of the Beatles and the 1960's decade
in general had a very profound effect. It was only natural to bring all my first hand experience of collecting vinyl
into becoming a professional record seller.  Nearly thirty years ago we entered into the wonderful atmosphere
of record fairs with the highest possible standards set. When the Internet became the world's new market place for
vinyl, in 2001 it was time to join ebay. Those standards were rigidly adhered to as they will always continue to be,
the basics of honesty and integrity were very much part of the era the music I love originated in, so here is our friendly
and very efficient service we are proud to provide;

We have kept all our charges at the same level for years now, but due to the Post Office's new price increases, regretfully we
will have to increase the cost of LP's, however, singles will remain unchanged.  Ebay were aware of that happening and have
increased their minimum postal cost for LP's to £7.00, that figure has been enforced by the UK Post Office and it will become
our UK First Class, Recorded Delivery cost for albums up to the value of £46.  A temporary reduction this week means we can
now post LP's for £5, but who knows how long before the Post Office return to £7?

For LP's valued above £46, the cost will be £9, we are unhappy about either increase but our high standard of packaging has meant
in 13 years of ebay trading, there has not been one record damaged, we are determined to maintain that in the present and future.

IN THE UK RECORDS UP TO THE VALUE OF £46 WILL BE SENT RECORDED DELIVERY, OVER £46 WILL BE
SENT SPECIAL DELIVERY.
