Stick In The Wheel's highly anticipated debut album is a raw, fresh take on English Folk music.
Lending their abrasive delivery to both original and traditional numbers, their take on the genre is not one of bland retroism or empty nostalgia, but rather a voice linking now to then.
The band is spearheaded by Nicola Kearey's fierce, uncompromising vocals, which come accompanied by the harmonies of Fran Foote and sparse, taut underpinning arrangements.
In a way, their aggressive, intentionally raw numbers have more in common with Sleaford Mods than Bellowhead, with tales of everyday life - carboot-swindlers, lorry drivers, London rioters - sitting seamlessly alongside traditional tales of prisons, hammer-wielding blacksmiths and 18th century madhouses.
Moreover, From Here is an important cornerstone in England's musical lineage; a proud rallying cry that's impossible to ignore.
