Queen : Sheer Heart Attack 4U / 4U 1st Press
This classic album is stunning!  As always I have played every track in full and I can confidently say they all play to the highest standard possible.  The clarity, depth and power is phenomenal and 'as new' sums it up perfectly.  The sonic quality is just on another level and this may well be the finest example of this album that I have ever listened to, a FINAL UPGRADE archive classic without doubt.  The vinyl has some faint hairlines but it is clear it has only been lightly played based on the audio and that there is barely any spindle wear.
The laminated cover is STUNNING and has been so well preserved over the years, again it is almost 'as new', and the lyric inner is also in lovely condition.
According to Discogs the 4U/4U matrix is a first press edition.  However, the lyric inner is a second press one as it has three cut corners and not four and does not have CREST DESIGN (c) QUEEN PRODUCTIONS... info under the crests on either side.  l let you make your mind up!  Regardless of all that this is the most 'complete' version of this LP that you are likely to find, every component is superb!

Visual grading

The vinyl is lovely condition and has a very impressive e glossy sheen with no marks or scratches.  Under a bright light I can see some faint sleeve removal hairlines but obviously they have no impact on the audio.  The run out grooves are super clean and the EMI labels are unmarked with only a couple of small faint spindle traces on S2 only.

Play grading

The fairground intro on 'Brighton Rock' plays perfectly without any background and Brian's first introduction is just as impressive.  Freddie's opening vocal section is faultless and already you notice just how strong and deep the audio is.  I love the production values on this album and they shine through when the vinyl is as clean as this.  The classic instrumental is just STUNNING with no interference to be heard and even the quieter section plays with great clarity, a couple of barely audible dust ticks that is all.  As the volume builds the quality is still there and the final vocal is as good as the first.  From start to finish I can confidently grade this is as Mint as it could not play any better.

There is complete silence in the dead wax and 'Killer Queen' then plays 'as new' with such clean and clinical audio.  No dust ticks no background at all.  Pure Mint audio throughout.

'Tenement Funster' more than keeps up this exemplary standard with sublime clarity and power.  One of Roger's early classics it's obvious why he likes to play it on his solo tours.  Another Mint track.

The segue into 'Flick Of The Wrist' is flawless and the first verse and chorus has no background either.  From then on it plays with immaculate audio and despite being a 'busy' track you can hear each note perfectly.  Incredible power also and no distortion.  Mint

'Lily Of The Valley' plays beautifully for such a quiet number.  The clarity is superb and I only 'picked up' a couple of barely audible dust ticks.  In a nutshell perfect.  Mint

The intro and the opening vocal on 'Now I'm Here' are 'as new' with no intrusion and as the volume ramps up the audio is so strong and deep and it continues in the same way.  For once there is no obvious inner groove distortion which is a rarity for this track as it is so often ruined by it, another sign this record has not been played very much.  Right through to the end including the fade out it plays so well and Mint- is very much deserved.

The entire intro on 'In The Lap Of The Gods' is just fantastic!  The sonic quality is out of this world, I cannot put into words how good it is!  Not one dust even just sheer perfect audio.  The first 'verse' is equal to that and the remainder of this classic cannot be faulted either.  What. A. Version - it is MINT all the way.

The dynamic 'Stone Cold Crazy' plays to the same high end standard and again that deep rich tone is very much in evidence.  The power and depth of the audio is STUNNING and yes Mint is again the only grade I can give.

The gentle 'Dear Friends' you will not be surprised to hear plays beautifully with no interference and only a couple of insignificant dust ticks.  It's rare to find it playing with such clarity and it grades as Mint

'Misfire' plays with stunning quality from start to finish with... no interference.  Mint

'Bring Back That Leroy Brown' can also be graded as Mint as there is literally no background.  I cannot emphasise enough how well it plays, much like the rest of the album!

The intro on 'She Makes Me...' plays with such depth and warmth and Brian's opening vocal also impresses.  It continues in the same way and again you just have to marvel at the sonic quality on offer here.  The clarity, depth and resonance of the audio is STUNNING and the entire 'breathless' section at the end could not play with any greater precision.  A quite wonderful Mint version.

'In The Lap Of The Gods...revisited' ends this spectacular album with high end audio once more.  There is no inner groove distortion here not even during the high octane second half of the track.  Wow this is good, I just had to play it again!  The sonic quality here is incredible - the playback is just so strong and clear and you would not believe this vinyl is fast approaching 50 years of age!  The 'bomb' ends this classic with immense power and once more Mint is deserved.

In summary this album could not play any better.  A bold statement I know but one I am confident in making.  I am not sure I have ever heard a more 'complete' version of this classic album and it goes without saying that it easily qualifies as a FINAL UPGRADE archive classic.  Sometimes words do not seem enough!  The clarity, depth and power of the audio is absolutely STUNNING and I defy anyone to find a better example!  As I mentioned previously the production on this LP is so good and the sonic quality is even further enhanced with a vinyl that has hardly been played.  It has been so well preserved and that applies to the immaculate cover and lyric inner as described below.

The Cover & Lyric Inner

The laminated cover is in lovely condition and has kept its original shape and structure perfectly.  The edges and spine are pristine and the corners are also practically 'as new'.  The opening edge looks untouched and the front cover is stunning with only a couple of small laminate creases next to the spine and a small abrasion next to Freddie that I only just noticed.  The back cover is in superb shape with no marking etc.  This has to be one of the finest examples still in existence and Near Mint is no exaggeration.
The original paper lyric inner (with three cut corners) has just one barely noticeable rub on the bottom edge (not a split) and is totally unmarked.  It has no obvious creasing apart from one small corner crease top right which you can only see on S2.  It is so clean and rarely seen as impressive as this today.
