Queen : Greatest Hits III 1st Press 2LP 1999 Limited Edition No 01157

This very collectable and limited edition double album is in superb condition, every aspect of it.  The audio is almost 'as new' with only one click at the end of the first track and a little inner groove distortion towards the end of S1 which is common.  The clarity, depth and power of the audio is stunning and it clearly has hardly ever been played.  The sonic quality certainly suggests that and there is no spindle wear on the labels either.  The vinyls are in visually in superb condition also.

The cover has to be finest example I have ever seen.  It is immaculate and the low number of 01157 on the back.  The pvc outer sleeve is rarely seen as perfect as this also with just one minor crease on the bottom edge.  It has no edge splits or corner tears which is a genuine rarity!  The picture inners are 'as new' with no wear at all.  A stunning 'package'.

Visual description

The vinyls are in lovely condition and still have an immaculate jet-black glossy sheen and no actual scratches.  It's only when you play the first record that you notice a tiny barely visible speck or needle drop?  You certainly would not notice it otherwise.  Apart from that you cannot fault the vinyls, they are visually stunning with only a handful of ultra faint hairlines.  The labels are unmarked and have no spindle wear.

Play grading

S1 begins with a superb version of 'The Show Must Go On' that is so close to perfect.  There is just one dull click right at the end due to a tiny barely visible 'dot' on the vinyl.  I will grade as Near Mint- but of course 99% is 'as new'.  'Under Pressure' has no such issue and plays with stunning precision throughout and 'Barcelona' and 'Too Much Love Will Kill You' are just as strong.  The last two tracks have a number of quiet sections and yet the clarity of sound is very impressive - only the final track has a little inner groove distortion towards the end but that is common with this LP and perhaps should not be downgraded as a result.  However, I will say Near Mint but the two preceding tracks are definitely Mint
George Michael's version of 'Somebody To Love' has of course gone down in history (I was lucky enough to be there!) and is 'as new' from start to finish.  The remaining three tracks all play to the same high end standard with no no interference.  This side grades as Mint there are no negatives.

'Driven By You' on S3 plays loud and true with no background and Mint is very much deserved.  'Living On My Own', 'Let Me Live' and 'The Great Pretender' all play 'as new' and then 'Princes Of The Universe' ends the side with exceptional power and resonance and no distortion whatsoever.  All tracks grade as Mint
'Another One Bites The Dust' is flawless and as you would expect the depth of the audio here is stunning.  Deeper and stronger than ever!  'No-One But You' and 'These Are The Days Of Our Lives' both play beautifully with no intrusion and 'Thank God It's Christmas' ends the album with perfect sound quality.  Another Mint side in every sense.
In summary this first pressing plays with superb audio on all four sides with just that one click at the end of the first track and a little distortion at the end of the side.  Aside from the sonic quality is 'as new' and you really notice the depth and warmth of the audio - this '99 pressing was certainly produced to a very high standard.  It's not often you find the cover and pvc sleeve in such immaculate condition as detailed below.
The Cover, PVC Sleeve & Picture Inners
The cover rarely is in superb condition and has no shelf wear.  It often has some corner wear or an edge split because it fits very tightly inside the pvc sleeve which can cause problems.  The edges and corners here are perfect and the front and back cover are unmarked.  As can be seen it has the low number of 01157 on the back.  A stunning 'as new' example.
The PVC sleeve is just as impressive and has no side splits which for the reasons given above is rare.  Minor folding / creasing of the bottom edge but this is minor and nothing to worry about.  It still has the original Limited Edition sticker and the Virgin price sticker on the front.

The records have been cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
