SOFTLY AS I LEAVE YOU Lp by TONY DE VITA. Original Italian promo 1st pressing on the CAROSELLO label (CLN 25019), from 1972. Super-stylish and evocative piano trio session led by the cult arranger and pianist, Tony De Vita. An elegant hybrid of bossa jazz / lounge / pop and a touch of baroque. An Italian "now sound" jazz trio if you like :) Beautiful, refined and mellow themes featuring enchanting interpretations of Burt Bacharach / Hal David / Gianni Ferrio / John Lennon / John Barry etc played in an easy tempo jazz key. Although De Vita has worked with several famous artists and for RAI television and radio, this Lp still seems to be little known outside of Italy. The only exception would be the ever trendy Japanese who dig such piano trio outings from Europe :) The Softly As I Leave You album was recently given an inspired re-issue in Japan by Production Dessinee and no wonder... creative mood music with a gorgeous Brazilian slant on PAROLE PAROLE (a theme penned by Gianni Ferrio for Mina) / the bossa E PENSO A TE (written by Lucio Battisti) VANESSA (a bossa original by De Vita) / the classic Bacharach jazz waltz of WIVES AND LOVERS / GRANDE GRANDE GRANDE (a funky samba influenced pop arrangement with cool breakbeats and rim-shots) and our soundclip finishes with the seductive jazz title track SOFTLY AS I LEAVE YOU (another original by De Vita). Sublime piano over drums by Tullio De Piscopo and groovy basslines by Bruno Corvetto (of Giorgio Gaslini Quartet / Enrico Intra and a session player on the Una Voglia Da Morire OST score). Sleeve artwork is amazing, with a wonderful pop art / psychedelic Beatles influenced design. One for the obscure piano trio connoisseur. This is the desirable original 1st press promo issue too. Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG 

Vinyl is closer to shiny, M- condition overall regardless of a few hairlines / faint scuffs and some old, pressing residue blemishes. Some light surface noises. A few soft pops / soft ticks in places (as you can hear on our soundclip). The front laminated soft card sleeve is graded strong VG++ only because of some ring dirt marks and some ring creasing (mostly to back sleeve). Minimal corner wear. Sharp looking item. Camera flash glare to sleeve and label photo. Rare Lp!!!
