ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This handsome and rare 2LP set issued by Süddeutscher Rundfunk Stuttgart (501/502, German pressing, yellow label, stereo) features conductor Gary Bertini and the Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart in a magnificent account of Mahler's Symphony No. 5 in C-sharp minor, sumptuously recorded "live" in concert at the Beethovensaal des Konzerthauses Stuttgarter Liederhalle on 20 March 1981.

Filling out the set is these same forces equally captivating rendition of Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms, set down in the same venue on 11 December 1980.

This remarkable album was produced by Alfred Didion and engineered by Bernhard A. Kohl.

The interior panels of the gatefold jacket carry extensive liner notes (in German only) by B.A.K. The memorable cover photo was taken by Hugo Jehle.

To my knowledge, these performances have never enjoyed re-issue in any format. One can only hope that Hänssler, Capriccio, or another enterprising independent label will see fit to re-release these exalted musical documents by one of the great Mahler conductors of the last 75 years.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. There is minor corner wear, but really that is all. There are no corner breaks, seamsplits, bends, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the box remains perfectly solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive in appearance. Overall, this rates as a truly excellent collector’s copy.

The condition of the 2 LPs is near-MINT throughout and in both the playback is superb – overall, these rate as truly fine collector’s copies.

USA Buyers: shipping delays from Spain (where I am) to the USA are extreme due to the current situation.
I apologize for the inconvenience, but I am advising USA buyers not to purchase from me at this time. Commercial shipping (e.g., UPS, DHL) is a possibility, but these are quite expensive and any such costs must be borne entirely by the buyer.
Please write with any questions, I will be happy to help.  - Posted 19 May 2020
