Hawkwind : Roadhawks A-3U / B-2U 1st Press + Poster & Sticker 1976

This first pressing plays with stunning quality on both sides with NO interference.  The clarity, depth and power of the audio is comparable to a recently shop bought vinyl that's how good it is!  This is another Hawkwind FINAL UPGRADE classic up for auction here i.e. no need to purchase another as you would not find better audio than this!  I cannot emphasise enough just how incredible the sonic quality is here!  The vinyl is also visually very impressive with only a couple of bag rash areas on S2.

The gatefold is in superb condition with barely any wear and it comes complete with the original poster and sticker which remain in perfect condition.  The inner sleeve is also in excellent shape with minimal wear only.

This first pressing has the A3U/B2U matrix and has 'Manufactured In England.  A Product of United Artists Records' around the rim of the label.  'Paranoia (Excerpt)' is listed inside the gatefold also.

Visual description

The vinyl is in excellent condition and still has a very strong glossy sheen across most of it.  S2 does have a couple of fade areas (bag rash like) but this is zero effect on the stunning audio.  There are no other marks or scratches and I can only find a small number of very faint hairlines.  The UAR labels are near perfect with no marking and very minimal spindle wear.

Play grading  

The acoustic intro on 'Hurry On Sundown' plays with stunning precision with just one very light dust tick and as the vocal begins the audio is flawless.  It continues to play with remarkable clarity and depth and there is just no sign of any interference.  It provides a Mint start to this compilation album.

The segue into 'Paranoia' is perfect and the entire intro then plays 'as new' - the sonic quality is amazing and in all honesty it plays like it has never been on a turntable before!  As it builds this same standard is kept up and I wish I could put into words just how incredible the depth of the audio is.  From start to finish this is Mint and remember there are some quiet sections here so there is no room for any interference to hide...if there was any!

The live version of 'You Shouldn't Do That' segued with the unlisted 'Seeing It As You Really Are' is of the same high end standard with no 'background' of any kind.  Little more needs to be said.  They both play with that typical driving Hawkwind power with no interference from start to finish.  As they are live they don't have that same studio aesthetic quality but they still play with exceptional quality and deserve to be graded as Mint

The classic 'Silver Machine' plays with phenomenal power and depth from the get go.  Lemmy's vocals are so strong as is the accompanying music and there is no interference.  The mid instrumental could not play any better and the final vocal / instrumental section ends the side with pristine quality.  Such a strong bass sound throughout the track also.  A dynamic Mint version to end the side.

'Urban Guerilla' plays with great power from start to finish and again the depth of the audio is a stand out.  I cannot fault it and Mint is again an easy grade to give.

The intro on 'Space Is Deep' is as 'clean' as it was when first pressed with not one dust tick.  The opening vocal section is of the same high end standard and the following instrumental is superb!  So strong and deep the powerful sound just envelops the room and the closing acoustic section continues this fine form with just a couple of dust ticks on the sound effect at the end.  Such a great track and Mint is again justified.

'Wind Of Change' plays with amazing clarity with only three mega light dust ticks on the intro and the same on the fade out.  The sonic quality pays testament to how infrequently the vinyl has been played and there is just no interference to be heard.  It really does play beautifully and again has to grade as Mint

The final track 'The Golden Void' ends the album with supreme clarity and power and...no interference.  There is only the bare minimum of inner groove distortion which is of course totally non-intrusive.  Mint-

In summary this first pressing plays with sublime quality across both sides and having listened to every track in full I can safely say there is no interference on any of them.  The clarity and definition of sound is so impressive and it patently obvious this vinyl has not been played very much.  Another FINAL UPGRADE time-warp classic I am pleased to say.  A superb 'complete' package.

The Gatefold, Poster, Sticker & Inner Sleeve

 The cover is in fantastic condition with hardly any shelf wear.  The edges are close to perfect with only minimal rubbing on the bottom edge of the back cover and the wide spine is super clean with barely any wear on the corners.  The right hand corners are also in great condition and the opening edges have no handling wear either.  The front cover just has one tiny scuff near the 'A' close to the bottom edge but is otherwise perfect and the back cover is even better with just a small record shop sticker top left.  The inside of the gatefold is in lovely condition with barely any spotting around the edges and has just a minor amount of wear at the top of the inner spine.  A superb example overall.

The large poster is 'as new' with no marking or splits and the round silver/black sticker of the Doremi Fasol Latido album cover is just as impressive.

The die-cut plain white inner has no side splits or tears, minimal creasing and only a little age related fading around the edges.

Play tested on my Rega P2 Turntable / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers

This record has been cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
