MINT CLEAN ...

After 50 years = STILL IN ORIGINAL FACTORY SHRINK WRAPPER

Original 1969 first pressing of yet another great album by CREEDENCE ... in the late '60s nothing could stop them as they churned out one 'nugget' after another ... here, a timeless collectible filled with entertaining sounds of peak era CREEDENCE CLEARWAYER REVIVAL

Amazing to think Willy And The Poor Boys was only the third studio album released by Creedence Clearwater Revival in 1969. When compared to today's standards of an average of one album every couple of years it's positively staggering. But the most astounding fact of all about Bayou Country,Green River and Willy And The Poor Boys is how consistently excellent they are. The quality of John Fogerty's songwriting is quite remarkable and the band sound so comfortable with themselves and each other you could believe they've been playing together since the day they popped into the world. Willy and the Poorboys features just guitars, bass, and drums (and, occasionally, a harmonica and a washboard). Lyrically, CCR's subject material is preoccupied with the American poor and working class. Lacking any of the psychedelic music that was being distributed all around them, Creedence had the audacity to make a thematic album more interested in the roots of American music than in recesses of the human mind. The result is one of the finer LPs of the late 1960s.

On it, CCR prove they can knock out great hits ("Down on the Corner," "Fortunate Son"), create sturdy grooves ("Feelin' Blue," "The Midnight Special"), appreciate American folk music ("The Midnight Special," "Cotton Fields"), and tap into powerful emotional reserves ("Fortunate Son," "Don't Look Now," and "Effigy"). The versatile album hangs together because of its consistent sound and purity of focus. Surprisingly, amidst the group's re-visitation of traditional American music motifs, they churn out the greatest anti-Vietnam War song of the era in "Fortunate Son," a sizzling hard rock track that points out the hypocrisy of our politicians in just over two minutes! The surreal closer "Effigy" describes the "silent majority" celebrating the "fire burnin' on the palace lawn" with "mixed emotion." John Fogerty's guitar solo at the end of the track is one of his most powerful. To a certain extent, this understated album draws on the zeitgeist of the times just as much as The Rolling Stones' decadence-tinged revolutionaryisms on Beggar's Banquet and Let it Bleed. Willy and the Poorboys should be in everybody's record collection.
