An original summer 1968 1st mono press of WOF on the UK Polydor label. Matrix A1/B1/A1/B1 - very 1st cut. Please note this REALLY is the VERY 1st press of WOF. Most copies you'll see on line will have shiny red labels, and perhaps mention a two disc set [these are not the 1st copies]. The first copies were pressed super heavy and the labels were textured [like mid-sixties stock]. Having listened to a few copies in stereo/mono & early/later...I'm very much of the opinion that THIS is the truest and best way to take in Wheels... The vinyl comes housed in an original foil covered gatefold cover printed by E J Day. Please note there is a London record store sticker placed neatly at the foot of the right internal panel. We also have original inner sleeves from the time. One of the inners is actually dated May-1968...just a couple of months prior to 1st release. So, we're 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex+) In truly marvellous condition and has only seen lightest use. Under close inspection there are a few very superficial marks per side, and a couple of ultra-light trails - absolutely nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback with a couple of slightest deviations. Intro and inbetweens are lovely and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. A fantastic rendition and you can't quite imagine any of the other formats/pressings managing to convey the title this well. Beautifully clear audio without background will allow you to hear the low-key passages of 'Passing Time' with maximum effect and resolution. Traintime? ..plays clean as a whistle...and you need it to play perfectly otherwise it just will not have the same vibe. Interference is largely absent. You might detect a couple of crackles in a couple of isolated moments per side [e.g. later stages of Toad]. I did pick up a couple of very low-level ticks as Warthog closes out, and one isolated tick in Traintime, and a couple in Toad [very minor and absolutely no big deal at all]. It really is a top level performer...and a consistent performer from start to finish.
Cover (Ex-) A total nightmare to find in decent condition, but someone's been very careful with this copy. Very nice clean front and rear without the usual levels of wear you typically find. Very little creasing at all or nasty marks hidden away. Edge wear is very light for this title and the openings are still sharpish. The spine is, unusually, is 100% intact..that's a real find. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. Don't under estimate how difficult it is to find one even at this level.
Inners (Vg+) Light aging. But no splits.
