An original Spring 1974 heavy-set EARLY copy of DSOTM. Matrix A3/B3 - coming hot on the heals of those very early solid-blue-triangle copies. So, are you looking for some early PF magic - but are perhaps bulking at the £500 you need to shell out to get a decent DSOTM 1st press? Then you could do worse than take a closer look at this example - this copy is barely 12 months from those original masters. And it will cost you a tenth of the price. I'd say - that should get someone's attention. So, how can we be sure it is that early? Tis quite straight forward really.. in spring 1974 [1 year after 1st release] Emi moved to ditch 'Gramophone' from the perimeter text and replace it with 'EMI'. At this point they added 'Made In Gt Britain' down in the perimeter text at 4 o'clock. Problem is - on the first copies - they forgot to remove the 'Made In Gt Britain' at six o'clock. So, these transitional label change copies are easy to date to spring 1974 - because they are effectively an ERROR/A Mistake. And being just twelve months from 1st release they are imbibed with much of the 1973 early master magic and are pressed heavier than mid-seventies stock. On a well preserved copy, like this specimen, you're actually sailing pretty close to the quality of those 1st pressings...and at a fraction of the price. VERY WORTHY of consideration to the audiophile and the collector seeking good value. The vinyl comes housed in an original cover with sealed left hand panel. Also include is ONE poster [the band] and None of the stickers [sorry!]. We also have the original 1974 blue-text Emi inner sleeve. And, as an added bonus, for those who would like to mimic the original 1st release..a black replica inner sleeve. Nice!
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) In superb condition and has only seen light careful use. I can only make out a couple of very light marks per side, and one on side two which I would describe as light and fairly inconsequential  - nothing heavy or sinister looking. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with two deviations. And, yes, you can HEAR this copy is not far from the masters...the vibrancy and energy is packed in there, along with depth and resolution. Intros and inbetweens are lovely and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. Interference is largely absent - it plays really clean...just what you need. You might detect a few crackles in a couple of isolated moments, but this is one talented performer! The only deviations are 4-5 very slight ticks right at the start of the intro to "US And Them" & then and another 6 or so slight ticks/crackles later in the same track. This is all pretty low-level type stuff as it doesn't seem to stand out much at all - and this is DSOTM, after all, where stuff can stand out a mile! Overall a really sweet player. And, I would argue, off the scale for "bang for buck"...>>
Cover (Ex-) Lovely deep blacks showing and this copy is not exhibiting a lot of the surface wear that usually appears on this title. Both front and rear are well preserved with only one crease on the rear, and a one inch scratch in the southern sector on the front. [The scratch has been coloured in black and is only a minor cosmetic issue]. The interior is immaculate with no issues. Edge wear is pretty light for this title and the spine is exhibiting hardly any wear at all. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing. No splits.
Poster (Ex) very nice and crisp - doesn't appear to have ever been on a wall.
