An original Mono 1st press of Pepper on the UK Parophone label. Matrix 1/1. Really nice heavy-set pressing..nothing flimsy about this copy! The vinyl comes housed in an original gatefold cover with the flipbacks exposed in the interior. PLEASE NOTE - this is the VERY 1st VERSION of the Pepper sleeve - with a WIDE SPINE. Only the very 1st copies comes with this original design. ALL later copies/reissues have the slim-line spine. Also included is the original cut-outs and an original flame 'patent applied for' inner sleeve. If you need a top level rendition - then do take a closer look>>>>>> So, 100% complete and 100% genuine.
Vinyl (Ex+) In superb condition and has only seen very light careful use. Under close inspection there are a couple of very minor marks, and some extremely superficial bag-rash markings - nothing remotely troublesome or that would even vaguely enter the audio spectrum. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are VERY quiet and the audio comes across with superb clarity. This is certainly one of the best renditions I've witnessed. This is unusual on a standard 1st press..but on the wide-spine variant they rarely appear in this top condition. Have a look at those label shots and the surface shots of the vinyl. I think the thing that sets this copy apart from nearly all original copies - is the sheer level of clarity. It is crystal clear reproduction. I'm picking out very very subtle instrumentation that I don't very often hear - or have perhaps never really noticed before. This is a sign of the Lp having been played sparingly. Which, let's face it, is quite unusual for a 60's Pepper. Interference is pretty much totally absent. And let's remember - Pepper, in places, is an incredibly fussy record. The cleaner you can go the better with this release - you'll hear everything possible in the mix. Even those tricky tracks like WI64, WIYWOY, and She's Leaving Home..all play supremely well and with quiet background. There are one or two occasional very low-level level crackles in 'WI64' - but this copy is cleaner than 90% of well preserved copies. So, this is a real keeper/players copy...look after it and it will deliver a fantastic rendition every time. Other than that expect nothing more than a few crackles in a couple of isolated spots. Yes, it really is that good! You will never better the audio on this copy - "period".
Cover (Ex) In lovely shape with a colourful shiny front and rear. And that spine is like...Wow! You don't see many this well preserved..so so many show compression or much worse on the spine. Very little creasing evident on the front and juts a couple of thumbnail creases on the rear. The interior is really superb with very well preserved flipbacks - Sweet! Edge wear is very limited and the openings are still sharpish. The only slightest detractor is the start of a tiny tear at the bottom seam of the opening edge {right panel} [secured internally and is no more than a minor cosmetic issue {1.c.m. max}] . Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. A copy that would not be easily bettered!
Inner (Vg+) Only one 1 inch edge split. Bit of grubbiness down in one corner. Otherwise pretty decent.
Cut-outs (Ex+) Absolutely faultless.
